Dog Day Afternoon

Standard

This afternoon, on a whim, I decided to go to the Lost Dogs Home to see if I could adopt a dog.

Hubby and I have been wanting a dog for ages and go all gooey when we see one in the street. I will stop work to go pat the pet therapy dogs.

So off I went. We are after a small dog, as we have a small backyard, who can tolerate sitting and watching telly with us.

No such luck in the cages – an Alaskan Malamute, a Bull Terrier, a German Pointer and a Bull Mastiff! The littlest one was a Kelpie cross named Kramer.

It was love at first sight. He didn’t bark, just walked up to the wire, stuck his face up against it and looked at me as if to say “you know you want me”. The Vet nurse got him out to have a play and we bonded, and I even taught him to sit. He even sat for a cuddle. He was a lovely dog. Unfortunately, Kelpies require big backyards and twice daily walks, which we cannot manage.

Another little fella was bought in, a maltese cross shih-tzu (a shih-teeze??) He was a small dog (tick), very quiet and cuddly who was just happy to sit and be patted. Unfortunately, he is on hold for somebody, but if they don’t take the dog, we can adopt him!!

Now for the Ben Cousins match – four words – who gives a shit?

Wings on my feet, pity about the dang blisters!

Well, after a hard day at work and being on call yesterday, I went to running training. Can’t say I was looking forward to it! I went anyway, was a fast 5 km. I got into it well, got some good speed up and got to a point at about the 20 minute mark where I was running strong (6:10ish mins) and then the tape that I had diligently pasted on my blisters started to unravel. This stopped me in my tracks. Bugger. I will be really strong once I take charge of the blisters. Other  than this, the Adistar shoes are great; am not having nearly as much ache in the shins.

Had the grand round at work, then the team meeting. A staff member was leaving and food was there – I spent the whole meeting sitting in front of 2 packs of tim tams. I only ate one biscuit! Good thing I was running the meeting, otherwise many more tim tams would be sitting in my belly! Go me.

Had better go have dinner now.

Think I may go to bed early and read my new book, complete book of running for women.

Addit 2200: I have just entered the Brooks River run – 8 km on Sunday the 1st of March – My 30th Birthday! I have also bought a techie tee to commemorate the event!

I stole it from Jaykay, I love interrogating people :)

Sassy, 1: Chocolate, nil.

Standard

There was a box of roses chocs at work today. I saw them. I circled them. I stared thoughtfully at them and sniffed them. But I didn’t eat any. Chocolate is a sometimes (and probably only weekend) food. I did good.

Yesterday, hubby and I went to see the movie “The Reader”. A beautiful, absorbing film. Kate Winslet is brilliant. The dress she wore to the Oscars today – not so much. She looked too austere and mumsy. She may be a mum but she is beautiful with a killer body (and she spent much of that movie with her kit off) and she should work it a bit.

On the Oscars outfits, there was nobody’s who I would have said “wow, that’s amazing” to. Anne Hathaway looked good. As did Heidi Klum (actually you can tar and feather her and she would still look the bomb). Nobody looked “amazing”. The best oscars outfit I have ever seen is the Michelle Williams frill neck yellow frock she wore when nominated for Brokeback mountain. A fashion risk that paid off in spades.

I have just finished watching “The biggest loser”, car wreck viewing. One of the evictees, a seriously obese lady, was crying that she would not be able to lose weight on the outside. She has just defeated herself then and there. She wanted to lose weight fast. It don’t work like that, except if you do optifast, which needs medical supervision, or lap banding. It is wrong, I know, but I just can’t stop watching it. McDonalds for the mind.

I missed out on run class tonight; was stuck at a level crossing on the way home and that screwed me up. But I went on a fast-ish run to get vegie curry takeaway and walked back. A bit of exercise. I confess that I have lost a bit of interest in running lately but there is no doubt that it is a great way to get around. And you know, I had a good feeling while I was doing it. That people were watching and thinking “good on her”, not “what a big arse she has”.

Am typing as I watch good news week, Ajay Rochester is on it and she looks to have dropped a bit of weight. Her fadubadas are still flappin, though.

Sayonara.

My happy place.

I went to a dance class (well, actually, 2 in a row) at the Dance Factory today; beginners funk and beginners Jazz.

And I loved it. Love love loved it. That will be my new Saturday morning activity.

The funk class was run by a beautiful looking Italian man called Domenic. The jazz class was run by a gorgeous peppy little blonde called Carnie.

For the uninitiated, Funk is Hip-hop, the sort of stuff you might see in a J-Lo music video.

Jazz is what you see in Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” video clip. You will be familiar with the Genres if you watch “So you think you can dance”.

I even got to dust off my old Jazz shoes. 🙂

And to be honest, I loved watching my how my body moved. Instant feedback from the mirrors. It was by no means the smallest or thinnest body there, but it moved really well.

Had better go sort myself out some visas (for India and Nepal) now!!

Up n down Friday.

Standard

This AM, went on a home visit. Interesting but taxing in a way. Hard to know where the problem is! Sounds a bit cryptic but I kinda have to be!

This arvo, chasing my tail!

The eating/calorie king thing: Didn’t eat any chocky today. Did eat 2 of my home-made muffins. Why 2?? Well, at least I have run out now. Note to self – baking isn’t good for trying to lose weight! Tomorrow is a new day. It is so hard. I hear Lily Allen (cheeky UK songbird) lost weight by hypnotherapy, convincing her that she liked healthy food in preference to junk. It worked for her.

Hubby rang me up this arvo and asked me if we wanted to adopt an orphaned dog from the bushfires. I got all excited and started making mental plans. But we found out that they had all already been adopted. 😦 All excited about getting a dog and now very let down.

Had a terrible gut-ache from eating onion in my stir-fry lunch today (It is go out for food friday). I had to go to bed after work, a sleep cures everything. I am not meant to eat onion (wheat, apple etc etc) but I have gone off the rails.

I need to get back on the rails. Anyone have any ideas to re-rail after derailing? I have been a bit down in the dumps about this.

On to more exciting news, I am going to the Dance factory in Richmond to try some dance classes. I think I will do 2 in a row; Funk and Jazz, just to see which one I like better. Hell, if I can run for 2 hours I can certainly dance for 2 hours.:)

Might try and convince hubby that we can go to the lost dogs home for a browse……

My new shoes.

Standard

Just for Sara. Yes, I can walk in them. No, they are not my running shoes. They are adistar salvation. Shoe fetishists: don’t get too excited.

A hard day at the office today – Had to run the case conference. Good that boss entrusted me to task, but hard going running a meeting for 3 hours, discussing 26 “customers” and keeping everyone (including myself) focussed.

After work – 4km time trial. Needed to retire 2 km in. Reasons:

  1. Blister killin me
  2. went out too hard
  3. cannot psychologically deal with 2 pb’s in a week.

So I was a late scratching.

Have given up on Calorieking for the moment – very time consuming. Now know what is calorie laden and I know that I spend waaaaaaay too many calories on snacks and probably eat too little at meals. So I am now eating my home made banana muffins for snacks; they are healthy and I know what is in them.

better go now, keep making typos and I think it may be something to do with the 2 glasses of wine at dinner 🙂

addit 2221 hrs: had better get back on with calorie king. am still eating too many crappy snax.

2 new pairs of HOT shoes.

Standard

Went for a shopping trip with my mother in law for my 30th birthday present (my birthday isn’t actually until the 1st of March) and she bought me some new running shoes – Adistar Salvation. Very cushy, very supportive, hopefully few blisters. The midsole on the Kayano did not last very long.

MIL and I had a very nice day together, looking at all the couture and nice lady stuff in the shops. What recession, I ask you? 🙂

I also put on layby some high heeled gladiator type sandals, a “statement” shoe according to the saleslady at Midas. I can actually walk in them, which was more than what I could say for others I tried on. I just don’t know how Posh and all the Hollywood stars walk in them – they force the ankle into extreme plantarflexion and it puts the whole body out of whack.

I got home, cooked a good pommy meal; low fat sausages (they just don’t taste as good as the fatty ones), braised cabbage with worcestershire sauce and some little roast potatoes. Yum!

Watched “So you think you can dance”, really enjoyed it. Particularly loved the whole “Geek/ Hot chick” dynamic going on between Penny and Charlie, and also confessed to loving Beyonce’s “Single Ladies”.

I have actually done quite a lot of dancing in the past, mainly Jazz and Hip-Hop. The last time I took classes was about 6 years ago. I loved it. I used to go to my happy place. I would like to take it up again, and I have kept my jazz shoes for 6 years in the hope that I would! There are Jazz and Funk classes at the Dance Factory in Richmond, sound fairly flexible. But with running and pilates, that would take most of my weeknights out! Hmmm. I really love to dance, though, it is my first love, before pilates and running.

2 HOURS.

Standard

Shells and I are now, truly, long distance athletes.

We did about 17 or so km in this time.

It didn’t start off brilliantly, I needed to pee and had some shin pain. I also had new gear on, my brooks adrenaline runners which I hadn’t worn on a long run before, my melbourne marathon visor, a new pair of tights and a fuel belt with water/gatorade mix.

The thing that made the difference was the sugar – it got me through. So did having Shells to yap with.

I also got a blister, which necessitated us walking for a bit but I ran through most of it.

I now have a mental toughness which is greater than what I had previously.

After, we felt good, a kind of tired contentment.

Half marathon, here we come!!!

Happy Valentine’s day everybody. Mwaahhh!

STOP!

Standard

The crap!

I need to cut the crappy snacks! I have trouble resisting them!

Be prepared with good foods.

Distract self when get stressed.

Only eat chocs, biscuits etc on the weekend (shouldn’t be eating wheat anyway, so why why why???)

Help!

Doesn’t help when I have a stressful day at work. Hmmm……

Hypnotherapy? Aversive therapy (electrodes attached to sensitive parts???)

Baaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhrrrrgggghhhh…..
